Domain Age and New Sender Risks Explained

Mailbox providers do not treat a brand-new domain the same way they treat an established sender with a stable history.

Why age matters

  • Very new domains have little reputation data
  • Abusive campaigns often rotate into fresh domains
  • Sudden volume on a recently registered domain looks riskier

What to do if the domain is new

  1. Keep volume low at the start.
  2. Make sure SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are already correct.
  3. Use consistent branding, links, and reply handling.
  4. Avoid mixing cold outreach and transactional traffic on the same new domain.

Domain age is not a permanent penalty. It is a trust gap that needs cleaner sending behavior while reputation is still forming.
